Start your route at any garden of your choice (full details and map in Open Garden Booklets available at Hospice shops or the Hastings Tourist Information Centre). The White House Boutique Hotel 12 Godwin Road TN35 5JR Suzie Adams The south-facing terraced gardens offer tranquillity and seclusion. The pool, which is surrounded by tropical palms and vegetation, is an idyllic place to sit and relax. Elm Lodge 60 Old London Road TN35 5LZ Gwen and Michael Blandy Two acres of garden including winding paths leading to a wooded area ascending West Hill with views to the East Hill. Lawned area with herbaceous border and pond containing koi carp and golden orf. This is a garden still being developed. Strawberry Cottage 36 Tackleway TN34 3BU Don Brant The current design of the garden at Strawberry Cottage, with its terraces, secluded lawns, fountain, ponds and ruined temple, is due entirely to the ideas and hard work of the present owners. 18 Tackleway TN34 3DE Pete and Marianne Smith A modern, south-west facing, walled garden created from scratch in 2000 on the foundations of a demolished building. A lot of time and thought have gone into this garden which was developed from scratch by Ann and her son. 64 Croft Road TN34 3HE Stephanie Donaldson A sheltered third of an acre walled garden, featuring several different areas of interesting planting, from a shady courtyard with lots of pots to a little fenced vegetable garden. All gardened organically by the garden editor of Country Living Magazine. High View Croft Road TN34 3HB Alan and Margaret Wells This steep, sloping, terraced garden is well worth visiting, particularly for the splendid views. A well-established plot with well-stocked herbaceous borders and shrubs. NB Entrance from Croft Road or Love Lane. 54 The Croft TN34 3HH Simon and Eleanor Hatherley This is a fairly large walled garden (as Old Town gardens go!) and wraps around the side of the house and to the back. Beautifully planted with tropical plants and colour, there are lovely views of the East Hill as well as sea glimpses. 106 High Street TN34 3ES Craig and Jo Sams This walled garden of the former St Clement’s and All Saints’ Rectory is Soil Association-certified organic. Sloping, with herbaceous borders, fruit trees, terraces, a greenhouse and potager, the focus is on exotic plants suited to dry conditions. Fabulous bonsai trees are featured throughout the garden along with an array of shrubs and flowers. Banana plants and abyssinium flourish here. St Mary Star of the Sea Church Hall. Refreshments and stalls will be here. Parking in surrounding roads and car parks.
